First Grade
Teaching first grade at home is part adventure, part juggling act, and part convincing your child that reading is more fun than chasing the cat. One minute you’re practicing sight words, the next you’re counting to 100 for the millionth time (Spoiler: it’s learning, not a test of your sanity).
Homeschooling first grade doesn’t require a classroom stocked with fancy gadgets—just curiosity, patience, and a sense of humor. From exploring simple addition and subtraction to discovering that every bug in the yard is worthy of scientific investigation, first grade is your chance to build a strong foundation in reading, math, science, and social studies… while possibly covering every surface in glitter and construction paper.
Our Favorites
Our favorite sites are easy to spot because they’re marked by the number of stars at the beginning of each curriculum description. If you see five stars, you know it’s a hit in our house and probably comes with fewer groans and more “Hey, this is fun!” comments from the kids. It’s a handy way to tell at a glance which lessons have earned a gold star (or five) for keeping everyone engaged and (mostly) smiling.
